Normally the customer would need to click the \u201cReturn to Merchant\u201d button on the payment confirmation (Thank you) page.\u00a0 To get the redirect to happen automatically, you\u2019ll need to turn on \u201cAuto Return\u201d.\u00a0 Instructions for turning this on are here:<\/p>\n

To use PDT, you must activate PDT and Auto Return in your PayPal account profile. You must also acquire a PDT\u00a0identity token<\/em>, which is used in all PDT communication you send to PayPal.<\/p>\n

Follow these steps to configure your account for PDT:<\/p>\n

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.<\/li>\n
  2. Click the\u00a0Profile<\/strong>\u00a0subtab.<\/li>\n
  3. Click My selling tools <\/strong>\u00a0in the Left Preferences column.<\/li>\n
  4. Click on Update<\/strong> link from\u00a0Website Payment Preferences.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Under Auto Return<\/strong> for Website Payments, click the\u00a0On<\/strong>\u00a0radio button.<\/li>\n
  6. For the Return URL<\/strong>, enter the URL<\/strong> on your site that will receive the transaction ID posted by PayPal after a customer payment.<\/li>\n
  7. Under Payment Data Transfer, click the\u00a0On<\/strong>\u00a0radio button.<\/li>\n
  8. Click\u00a0Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  9. Click again\u00a0Click on\u00a0Update<\/strong>\u00a0link from\u00a0Website Payment Preferences.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  10. Scroll down to the Payment Data Transfer section of the page to view your PDT identity token.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To get the customer\u2019s information to be sent along with the redirect, you\u2019ll need to use\u00a0Payment Data Transfer (PDT).\u00a0 Keep in mind that this feature does require the browser to redirect to your page.\u00a0 This means that if the buyer closes their browser before the redirect, you won\u2019t receive the information.\u00a0 It\u2019s best to only use PDT to populate your website order confirmation or thank you page with dynamic info.\u00a0 If you need that information for other reasons, we recommend using\u00a0Instant Payment Notifications (IPN)\u00a0which are asynchronous meaning it\u2019s server to server and doesn\u2019t depend on a browser redirect.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
