{"id":185,"date":"2016-01-23T07:13:58","date_gmt":"2016-01-23T07:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vining.in\/blog\/?p=185"},"modified":"2017-05-29T10:00:02","modified_gmt":"2017-05-29T10:00:02","slug":"ibm-buys-ustream-build-cloud-offerings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vining.in\/blog\/ibm-buys-ustream-build-cloud-offerings\/","title":{"rendered":"IBM Buys Ustream to Build on Cloud Offerings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>International Business Machines Corp said on Thursday it bought Ustream Inc, an online video streaming service provider, to boost its cloud offerings for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Ustream, which counts Nasa, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Facebook Inc, Nike Inc and Discovery Channel among its customers, offers both live and on-demand video to about 80 million viewers per month.<\/p>\n<p>IBM did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. However, the Fortune magazine reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the deal, that the transaction could be valued at $130 million.<\/p>\n<p>IBM has been shifting away from hardware by selling low-margin businesses such as low-end servers and semiconductors to focus on high-margin products such as cloud-based services, mobile security and big data.<\/p>\n<p>The new businesses have so far failed to make up for revenue lost to divestitures.<\/p>\n<p>The company reported on Thursday that revenue dropped to $22.06 billion in the quarter ended December 31 from $24.11 billion (roughly Rs. 1,63,526 crores) a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>However, revenue from the cloud business jumped 57 percent to $10.2 billion (roughly Rs. 69,181 crores).<\/p>\n<p>Ustream, which is headquartered in San Francisco, will be part of IBM&#8217;s newly-formed IBM cloud video services unit, currently led by General Manager Braxton Jarratt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Source:<\/span><\/strong> Images &amp; Text from\u00a0http:\/\/gadgets.ndtv.com\/news<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Business Machines Corp said on Thursday it bought Ustream Inc, an online video streaming service provider, to boost its cloud offerings for businesses.
