Microsoft has rolled out an update for its Skype app on Android with new features that now lets users schedule Skype calls in Outlook. It also integrates Microsoft Office apps for Google’s platform.
Although you could already schedule Skype calls using Outlook, users can schedule calls in Outlook using Skype. All you need to do is to tap on the person you want to plan a call with and then click on the ‘Schedule a call’ option inside the Menu tab in the Skype app. Using calendar is also possible. You would have to create an event and send the invite.
Furthermore, the Skype v6.17.0.420 would now give you the ability to easily open Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets their corresponding apps for Android. “If you don’t have Office apps for Android installed, tapping on the file will give you easy instructions on how to download and install them,” adds the Skype blog post.
The updated Skype for Android app is available to download from Google Play.
Skype last week announced that it has built the Skype Translator tool into its Windows desktop app for all users. The company said that the Windows app of the service offers voice-to-voice translation in seven languages: Chinese Mandarin, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. For users who prefer texting, the app supports 50 languages including Hindi and Urdu. Launched in beta in late 2014, Microsoft announced in June last year that it would bring the real-time translation technology into Skype’s Windows client.
